Hit 101.9 Fox is a top 40 station in Melbourne and is owned by Southern Cross Austereo. The station was the start of commercial FM radio in Melbourne. In 1980, Fox FM launched along with EON FM (now Triple M).
To make it different to the existing AM stations, Fox FM launched with an easy listening format. After a couple of years, Fox FM changed to top 40. Since 1984, Fox FM programming has included Take 40 Australia.
In 1986, Fox FM was bought by its current owners, Austereo. Until then, Austereo only owned SAFM (Hit 107). Buying Fox was the start to building the Austereo Radio Network. In 1994, Austereo bought Triple M from Hoyts Media bringing the two stations that started commercial FM radio in Melbourne - Fox FM and Triple M - under the same ownership. The station is part of the Today Network. In 2015, it changed to the Today's Hit Network and Hit 101.9 became part of the station's name.
