Hit 107 is a top 40 station in Adelaide and is owned by Southern Cross Austereo. The station was the start of commercial FM radio in Adelaide being the first and only station to launch in 1980.
The station launched as SAFM with a rock format. At that time, FM stations required a three letter callsign so was known as "double SA".
SAFM was launched by Austereo and is the first station of what is now Southern Cross Austereo. In 1986, Austereo bought Fox FM, bought 4BK (Hit 105) in 1987, 2Day FM in 1989 and PMFM (Hit 92.9) in 1997. This was the Today's Austereo Network.
In 1994, Austereo bought Triple M from Hoyts Media bringing SAFM and Triple M under the same ownership. SAFM moved to top 40 with Triple M taking over the rock format. In 2011, Austereo merged with Southern Cross Media. Austereo's metropolitan stations - Today's Austereo Network - joined with Southern Cross Media's regional stations creating a national Today Network. In 2015, the network was renamed as the Today's Hit Network. SAFM lead the change by relaunching as Hit 107 in October 2014.
