Mix 106.3 is an adult contemporary station in Canberra and is owned by Australian Radio Network. The other commercial FM station in Canberra is 104.7, owned by Southern Cross Austereo. The two stations are operated as a partnership with Mix 106.3 part of the Australian Radio Network KIIS Network.
Canberra has two commercial AM stations 2CC and 2CA. In 1988, 2CC launched its supplementary FM station as Kix 106 and 2CA launched FM104. Both stations had a rock format.
With limited stations in Canberra, in 1994 Australian Radio Network and Southern Cross Austereo decided to work together. They joined the FM stations as a partnership and sold the two AM stations to Capital Radio Network. Kix 106 became Mix 106.3 with an adult contemporary format whilst FM104 became a top 40 station. With the end of the Kix branding, Mix 106.3 changed its callsign to 1CBR, an abbreviation of Canberra.
