The station was launched using its callsign, TTT FM which signified being Tasmanian. TTT FM had a minor investment from Austereo and mirrored itself on its Melbourne station, Fox FM with a rock format.

In 2000, TTT FM was sold to RG Capital who was building up a network of stations named Sea FM. But it wasn't until three years later in 2003 that TTT was renamed as Sea FM. The station also moved to a top 40 format.

The following the year, Macquarie Regional RadioWorks bought RG Capital's Sea FM stations. Followed by in 2011 when Macquarie Regional RadioWorks (Southern Cross Media) bought Austereo; bringing the station back under Austereo ownership.
