The Edge 96.1 is a station in the Blue Mountains area of western Sydney and is owned by Australian Radio Network. The station started its life as 2KA and until 1997 was a top 40 station.
In 1983, it was bought by television personality Mike Walsh. During his ownership, the station converted to FM and given a new name. In 1997, Walsh sold the station to Australian Radio Network who also own Sydney stations, KIIS 106.5 and WSFM.
With The Edge reception area reaching West Sydney, in 2006 Australian Radio Network changed The Edge to a dance station. With The Edge in an adjacent licence area, Australian Radio Network still falls within the "2 station rule" for Sydney yet able to offer three different formats - top 40 (KIIS), adult contemporary (WSFM) and dance (The Edge) - to parts of Sydney.
