|Triple M 105.1|
|Owner||Southern Cross Austereo|
|Co-locate||Hit 101.9 Fox|
Triple M 105.1 is a rock station in Melbourne and is owned by Southern Cross Austereo. The station was the start of commercial FM radio in Australia. It launched on July 11th 1980, three weeks ahead of Fox FM (Hit 101.9) and Sydney's Triple M and 2Day FM.
The station launched as EON FM on 92.3FM. The station name was chosen as it was the start of commercial FM radio with an immeasurably long period.
In 1986, EON FM was sold to Hoyts Media, owner of Sydney's Triple M. But it was two years later in 1988 when the station started using the Triple M name. They coincided it with a frequency change from 92.3FM to its current position on 105.1FM.
In 1994, Austereo bought Triple M from Hoyts Media bringing Triple M and Fox FM under the same ownership.In the late-1990s, Triple M expanded into sport. It was the first FM station to introduce a sports chat show and live AFL since the 1997 season.
